How Much Does Landscaping Cost in Ghana? An Honest Buyer's Guide

What a garden actually costs in Ghana — why there is no honest single per-square-metre rate, what drives a quote, and the only published indicative figures, presented honestly.

How Much Does Landscaping Cost in Ghana?

The honest answer is the one most firms avoid: a design-and-build garden is quoted per project, not by a flat rate. There is no honest single per-square-metre landscaping rate in Ghana, because the cost is driven by the mix of work — hardscape, planting, irrigation, and size — and every garden is a different mix.

This guide explains what actually drives a landscaping cost in Ghana, how an honest quote is built, and the only genuinely-published indicative figures in the whole field — presented for what they are, not dressed up as a market price.

Why There Is No Single Per-Square-Metre Rate

Two gardens of identical size can cost wildly different amounts. One might be mostly lawn and a few beds. Another, the same area, might carry paving, a retaining wall, a water feature, and a full irrigation system. A flat “GH₵X per square metre” for a landscape build would hide everything that actually decides the price — so it would be dishonest.

What drives the cost is the mix, not the area alone. This is why a credible firm quotes on a design, not a guessed rate.

What Drives a Landscaping Cost

DriverWhy it moves the price
Hardscape vs planting ratioPaving, walls, and steps cost far more than lawn and beds — the single biggest driver
Groundwork & drainageLevelling, drainage, and sub-base done first; cutting it is what makes a garden fail in the rains
IrrigationDrip or sprinkler pipework, controls, and labour run across the whole garden
Water features & lightingPonds, fountains, and pool surrounds add structure, waterproofing, and pumps
Site accessA tight or sloped site that machines cannot reach raises labour and groundwork cost
Size of the spaceMore area means more of everything — but size alone never sets the price

Groundwork and Drainage Come First — and Cost First

In Ghana the rains decide whether a garden survives. A garden built on poor groundwork and drainage will sink, pool, or wash out in the first rainy season. The groundwork — levelling, drainage, sub-base, and edging — is invisible when it’s done and catastrophic when it’s skipped. It is also a real line in the quote, and a firm that under-prices it is setting your garden up to fail. See our hardscape construction work for what proper groundwork involves.

The Only Published Figures — Honestly

The whole landscaping field in Ghana is overwhelmingly quoted on a site survey, and most firms publish no rate at all. There are only two genuinely-published indicative figures we have seen, and we present both honestly — single-source and indicative, not fixed market rates:

  • New lawn / turfing: indicatively ~GH₵15 per square metre installed — a single-source figure, a rough reference for laying a new carpet-grass lawn, not a guaranteed price. See turfing & lawn installation.
  • Maintenance ladder: roughly GH₵300 / GH₵600 / GH₵1,200 per month for ongoing upkeep (basic, standard, premium) — again single-source and indicative, for keeping a garden after the build, not for building it.

Everything else — design, hardscape, irrigation, water features, the full garden build — is priced on your design, because that is the only honest way to quote it. We will not borrow US, South African, or European rates and present them as Ghana prices; they are not.

How an Honest Quote Is Built

  1. Site survey — we visit and assess the size, soil, sun, drainage, and access.
  2. Design — a clear layout covering hardscape, planting, irrigation, lighting, and any water features. See garden design in Accra.
  3. Itemised quote — every element priced from the design, so you see the full cost before any work starts.

This is the difference between an honest, itemised number and a vague promise with a surprise bill at the end. For the full picture of how a garden is priced, see our landscaping cost guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does landscaping cost in Ghana?

A design-and-build garden is quoted per project — size, hardscape, planting, and irrigation drive the cost, so there is no honest single per-square-metre rate. We survey, design, and itemise the quote before work. The only published indicative (single-source) figures are ~GH₵15/m² for new turf and a ~GH₵300/600/1,200 per-month maintenance ladder.

Why won’t you give me a per-square-metre price over the phone?

Because it would be a guess dressed up as a price. Two gardens the same size can cost very differently depending on hardscape, irrigation, and water features. An honest number comes from a design, not from a square-metre figure.

Is there any published landscaping rate in Ghana at all?

Almost none — the field is quote-only. The only genuinely-published figures are single-source and indicative: ~GH₵15/m² turfing and a ~GH₵300/600/1,200 per-month maintenance ladder. We never present them as fixed market rates.
